Referrals

Self referrals

There are a number of services locally that you are able to make self referrals to without having to see your GP first.

Pharmacy First

The Pharmacy First scheme enables your local pharmacy to treat some common conditions with prescription-only medicines, without you visiting your GP.

Participating pharmacies offer this service during all their opening hours including any late nights or weekends, so it may be quicker to see your pharmacist than waiting for an appointment with your GP.

GP referrals

To request a GP referral:

Provide as much information as you can as this will help us to process your request.

If your referral was not requested by the surgery please contact the provider directly.

Tracking a referral

To track an existing referral:

Gloucestershire Hospitals Customer Care Hub

Due to long waiting times for some treatments, the Customer Care Hub supports patients by confirming they remain on the waiting list and checking for any changes in their condition. The hub will also proactively contact those waiting the longest.

Patients can call the hub directly for updates on their referral or treatment progress.

Opening hours:

  • Mon & Wed: 8am – 6pm
  • Tue, Thu & Fri: 8am – 4pm
  • Sat: 8am – 1pm

Care Hub: 0300 422 6360

NHS e-Referral (choose and book)

If your doctor has referred you to a specialist for further care you will be asked to book your appointment using the ‘NHS e-Referral’ system.

You will receive a letter from us within 2 weeks giving details of how to book your appointment and any passwords you may need.
